Our Impact
Giving Mannequins a Second Life
Team member with mannequins in warehouse

Mannequin Madness is the largest mannequin recycling company in the USA. We've helped retailers, museums, and individuals nationwide give their unwanted mannequins a second life since 2001 — long before retail sustainability became the industry standard it is today.

We keep an average of 1 million pounds of mannequins out of landfills every year. The Environmental Protection Agency recognized our efforts with a Special Achievement Award in 2005.

Our customers include retailers of all sizes, museums, and private individuals. We manage the afterlife of retail displays on a local, regional, and national level.

What We Accept

FAQ
Mannequin Recycling FAQ
The apparel industry is one of the largest polluters in the world. As retailer Eileen Fisher said, "Fast fashion is the second dirtiest industry in the world, next to big oil." Most of that pollution happens in production — but there's significant waste at the store level too, especially when stores close or remodel and fixtures get thrown away. Watch this Circa News video to see what happens to inventory and store fixtures when a retail store closes.
Depending on quantity and location, we can pick up mannequins at the store level or a regional distribution center, or you can ship them to us or one of our affiliates in other cities.
We recycle mannequins, dress forms, mannequin torsos, legs, heads, and jewelry forms free of charge — and we eliminate the cost of waste disposal fees for the large dumpsters typically needed to dispose of mannequins.
Mannequin Madness is located in the SF Bay Area. However, we have affiliates in most major cities in the U.S. and Canada who assist us in recycling mannequins in other locations.
Mannequin styles change just like clothing styles — a mannequin in good condition can end up in the dumpster simply because it's out of fashion. The average lifespan of a mannequin in a retail chain is about 7 years. Other common reasons include: a retailer closing underperforming locations; bankruptcy; damage not worth repairing; or new management wanting to refresh the visual displays.
We extend their life cycle by reselling them at deeply discounted prices — making them accessible to artists, small retailers, and museums who need to stretch their visual merchandising budgets. This is circular economy thinking in action: finding a new use for an old thing in its existing form.
Some companies do recycle mannequins by stripping them of hardware and grinding them into material used for fuel or cement — but this process is expensive, requires mass transportation, and raises questions about the environmental impact of incinerating those materials.

Our approach is different: we extend the life of mannequins by reselling them, keeping them out of landfills entirely. For damaged pieces, we repurpose them for Halloween projects, Burning Man displays, and DIY art projects — so nothing we receive ends up in a landfill.
