Headdress Class for Outdoor Afro Members

"Crafting is the art of turning ordinary objects into extraordinary things."

Our headdress class is more than just a crafting class to make wearable art. It is a mini retreat where you are surrounded by creativity, beautiful adornments, relaxing music and served tea from vintage teacups.

Consider this a self-care activity.  Rsearch has proven that making things by hand is a way to decrease stress, relieve anxiety and improve mental health.

Many of our students - especially those who came because a friend brought them or their job paid for it - did not consider themselves crafty or creative.

And yet they made amazing designs which you can see in our  photo gallery.

What you do

"One should either be a work of art or wear a piece of art." - Oscar Wilde

To inspire you, we begin with a slide show of headdress styles.

Then you choose your flowers and embellishments. Exploring our vast range of materials is half of the fun!

Then you return to your workstation which will have your crafting tools and a mannequin head wearing a headband.

Our instructor will consult with you on best practices to execute your design.

Relaxing music will be playing in the background and we have a selection of hot teas for you to drink. You can also BYOB.

At the end of class, we take group and individual photos in our photo studio which we will email to you.

ECO- FRIENDLY CRAFTING MATERIALS

"Creativity is making marvelous out of the discarded."

Half of the fun you will experience in the class is exploring our array of crafting materials.

We prefer faux flowers over fresh so that with care, your headdress can last for years

Our amazing variety of realistic looking faux flowers and foliage will provide you with lots of options for your design. And if flowers are not your thing, we have ofter embellishments such as: feathers, rhinestones, pearls, butterflies, shells, succulents and much more!

Many of our crafting materials are from reuse sources like estate sales and the prop department of retail stores.

Skills required

"The artist is not a special kind of person; rather, each person is a special kind of artist."

Beginners are welcome! No previous crafting experience is necessary.

If you can use a glue gun, you can design an amazing headdress.

Our instructor will provide you with the guidance and inspiration to make your vision a reality.

Most of our students had never made a headdress before. Many were also new to crafting. And yet they all left wearing something they were proud of.

We have some of their designs on our photo gallery.

If you wonder why there are mannequins in some of the background photos it is because our main business is selling recycled mannequins.

Our venue has these amenities:

-A private kitchen if you want a pot luck or a catered event

-Photo studio where we take Instaworthy photos of you wearing your headdress

-Sound system so we can play a variety of relaxing instrumental music to get in the creative zone.
